If you’ve been using Vodien since the launch of the IMDA PSG grant in 2018, it may be time to consider a change. Vodien’s support has significantly declined since its inception in 2002, and website maintenance has become increasingly lackluster. Many of our client websites hosted on their shared servers have been affected by security vulnerabilities.
During the IMDA PSG grant, many customers have benefitted from almost 80% subsidies on website developments that run on Vodien servers. however, the situation has changed. Websites on Vodien’s business plans are now experiencing poor performance, with issues like slower site speeds and longer server load times, making it difficult to rely on these metrics for performance assurance.

Not only can websites be slow, security lapse seems to also be the issue. Access are no longer as protected. Our client’s cart can suddenly receive pending cart notifications while websites can lose content without prior notice.
Today, our clients account even lost their home page.

Luckily, our team did the necessary backup recently and was able to recover the lost site.
While the technical team continues to provide backend technical support to address the gaps in Vodien’s service delivery, we believe the effort is no longer justified by the cost. In all honesty, better customer service wouldn’t be necessary if the hosting service itself was up to standard in the first place.
As a Singaporean digital service provider, we typically recommend local services to our clients. However, we also have a responsibility to suggest the best possible solutions. When it comes to Vodien, we’ve made the decision to move on—it’s no longer worth the investment. There are more reliable options available, such as Bluehost and HostGator. Additionally, newer cloud-based hosting services like Hostinger, Cloudways, or even directly engaging AWS seem to offer better performance and value.
Luckily, your websites server does not have to based locally. Its good to be, but given the global connectivity we have today. Its not much different to have a web server based outside of Singapore.
We and our clients have decided to move on. How about you?
